The Mandarin language is the most spoken language throughout the world. The Mandarin of the Sino-Tibbetean language family is actually a group of distinct 2 branches of the Chinese language spoken in most areas of northern and southwestern China. It is an official language in the People’s Republic of China, Republic of China (Taiwan) and Singapore.
Mandarin language The original name for Mandarin (sometimes spoken Mandarin in -2), Putonghua, literally means “normal speech”. However, in Taiwan, people call it Guoyu ie “national language”. Historically, it is also called Guanhua meaning “speech of officials”. Since Mandarin is more common in northern China, it is sometimes referred to as beifanghua (beifanghua; 北方 话) yaani “northern dialect”.
Mandarin is written using Chinese letters (sometimes called “Han characters”), an ancient pictorial system in which each symbol represents a different word. It has two main versions – the “traditional” characters used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and the “simplified” characters used in China, Singapore and Malaysia.
