Biography of former President R. Venkataraman

The post of President is the most important in India’s democratic rule. The President can dissolve the Parliament. One can take drastic measures to protect the country. Former President R. Venkataraman was born on 04 December 1910 in a village called Rajamadam in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu state. His father’s name was Sri Ramaswamy. R. Venkataraman was a high-profile lawyer.

Elementary education
R. Venkataraman was a very talented student. He passed his MA and LLB examinations at the age of 23 from the University of Madras. His wife’s name is Janaki, a woman of religious nature. Husband service was the best goal of his life. R. Venkataraman has three daughters. His father Mr. K. Ramaswamy Iyer was a patriot. Father’s influence was on him since childhood.

As a lawyer
R. Venkataraman was a successful lawyer. His advocacy was advocacy of honesty. He gained a lot of wealth and fame by staying in this profession. He was elected Secretary of the Lawyers Association due to his ability and diligence. He had special sympathy for the peasant-laborers. Venkataraman was chosen as the leader of his unions due to his continuous involvement in the service of the peasants and laborers.

Political life
Congress leader Kamaraj Venkataraman’s political guru. With his inspiration, he started taking active part in politics. In 1942, in the “Do or Die” movement, he also traveled to jail. From 1957 to 1967, Venkataraman was also a minister in the Tamil Nadu state cabinet. He was also a minister of several departments in the cabinet. Venkataraman was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1952, 1957 and 1980. Due to his merit, he was elected a member of the Planning Commission in 1967. Venkatraman became Finance Minister in 1980 and Defense Minister in 1982.

He was elected as the Vice President on 24 August 1984. While holding this post, he performed his work with great ability. On 25 July, Venkataraman decorated the post by taking the oath of President. He always took care of his dignified position. He proved to be a worthy President. Even after taking an active part in politics, he did not let the religious work get interrupted. Shankaracharya praised his religious interest. He always received the blessings of Shri Satyamurthy in the field of politics.

Last days of life
On 12 January 2009, he was admitted to the Army Hospital due to a disease called Urosepsis. On 20 January, his condition started becoming critical due to Low BP. In this way, he died on 27 January 2009 at the Army Hospital in New Delhi due to Multiple Organ Failure, while fighting the diseases. Due to his death on the second day of Republic Day, the events held on that day were canceled in the memory of the former President. He was cremated at the Unity site near Rajghat. The country progresses by being such a president.
